ABOUT ME
¡HOLA!
Thank you for visiting my website!
My name is Olivia and I am the creator behind The Travelling Hiker. If you find yourself on this page, it means that you are interested in getting to know me a bit better so let me tell you more about me and why I decided to start The Hiking Traveller.
I am from Spain although since 2012 I have been living in Belgium. My passion for travelling started when I was a little girl. Every summer my parents would take us to visit a different European country with the motor caravan they owned. This allowed me from a very young age to experience what it was to travel, discover new places and get to know different cultures.
Some years ago, I met David (a passionate hiker) who introduced me to the amazing world of hiking and since then we have started to combine both our passions during our holidays.
As for The Travelling Hiker, why did I decide to start a blog? After each trip, I found myself with thousands of beautiful photos and experiences I usually share with my family and friends. But when I think of it, maybe these experiences can be useful to others too, so I decided to open this blog. Will you join me in travelling and hiking around the world?
My goal is to help people like me plan their dream vacations. And what do I mean when I say people like me? People who are in their late thirties or early forties, have a full-time job and want to make the most of their limited number of holidays per year but don’t want to run from one place to another. People who enjoy both visiting bustling cities and also forgetting about everything and getting lost in nature.
10 things about me
- I have been living in Belgium for more than 10 years now. However, I am a true Spaniard at heart and I try to go to Spain as much as possible.
- I speak 4 different languages: Spanish, English, French, and Dutch but I have to admit that my Dutch still has room for improvement.
- I studied engineering at university and I work as a quality engineer full-time.
- My favorite dessert is Tiramisu! I could eat it every single day!
- I love finding cute coffee places for brunch in every city I visit.
- I consider myself a morning person. Waking up early is not a problem for me, especially if it is for a hike or a trip!
- I prefer living in a city to the countryside! Before I met David, I never considered trying hiking! But as it turns out, I love it!
- My first hike was in Etretat and even though I love walking, it was quite challenging for me… On the way back to the hotel, I fell asleep in the car because I was exhausted.
- Before I decided to start my blog, I was already using blogs about traveling and hiking to prepare for my trips.
- And the last one, I love planning and researching information for my trips! The only time I have gone on an improvised holiday was in Croatia and it was only because I was trying to escape the bad weather in the Dolomites.
