WHAT IS RANAKPUR TEMPLE?
Ranakpur Temple is one of the most important Jain temples in India. It sits in a quiet vally of the Aravalli Hills in Rajasthan, surrounded by forested land and small hills. The temple is best known for its peaceful atmosphere and its detailed white marble design.
The temple is dedicated to Adinath, the first Jain Tirthankara. Builders started work on the temple in the 15th century, during the rule of Rana Kumbha of Mewar. It took many years to complete and today it stands as a fine example of Jain art and skill. Every part of the temple shows careful planning and deep religious meaning.
Inside the temple, you will see more than 1400 marble pillars. Each pillar has a different carving, and no two look the same. Light enters from many sides and changes the feel of the space as the day goes on. Slow down here, look closely, and enjoy the calm energy of the temple.

MY EXPERIENCE VISITING RANAKPUR TEMPLE
We arrived at the the temple and first we spent some time admiring the beautiful façade. The outside is so intricate and full of many small stupas. We took a couple of photos, paid our fee for the camera, removed our shoes, and entered the temple.
Once inside, we were surprised by the thousands of beautiful white marble pillars, all of them carved in such detail! Each pillar is completely different than the other, with carvings of elephants, flowers, geometrical patterns. Walking inside the temple feels like walking in a forest of pillars.
You will also see beautifully carved ceilings above the main halls. Many ceilings have layered designs that draw your eye upward. The detail is easy to miss at first, so it helps to stop and look closely.
At the heart of the temple, you can view the main shrine dedicated to Adinath. Smaller shrines sit around it, each placed with care and meaning. You can observe locals worship from a respectful distance, which offers a glimpse into daily life.
Open balconies bring in fresh air and light. Take your time to enjoy the lush views from them. You can also admire details of the temple from different angles. Everything in this temple was carefully planned and not just a coincidence.
